ACES Curated Collection 2024
Curated by: Curated by Access to Creative Education in Scotland (ACES)

This collection of graduate work was curated by Jakub and Lily who chose their favourite pieces as part of a visit with ACES Edinburgh.

ACES is a Widening Participation programme for eligible S4 to S6 students at state secondary schools in the south-east of Scotland who are interested in studying a visual creative subject such as art, design or architecture. It offers events and activities to help young people better understand the careers within the Creative Industries and make successful applications to university. Find out more on the ACES webpage and join us today.

Here are some insights into why our curators made their choices.

Ava Brimilcombe, BA (Hons) Painting

"I loved the softness of these paintings, and the ghostly way the figures appear, as if part of the environment, connected to each other."

Kaiwen Chen, BA/MA Architecture

"The floor plans were very interesting due to the mix of realistic shading and detail, contrasting with the angular, technical walls of the building. I found the portrait mixed with the floor plan to be the most interesting piece of work."

Alexandre Langlois, BA/MA Architecture

"The model appealed to me as it showed what the interior structure of the building looked like and conveyed what materials might be used through the use of different textures. The sectional drawing of the building gave a more in depth idea of the layout and scale of the building."

Molly Mavor, BA (Hons) Intermedia

"I really loved the way this worked as an installation piece and how it surrounded you with this one person. I thought the faces were striking, and I loved the intensity of the eyes."

Cleo Stoutzker, BA (Hons) Painting

"I was really drawn to the composition and feeling created by these paintings, and the way they work together. I really enjoy the narrative that is constructed across these paintings and the way the colour pallet connects them."
